Venus Yantra Mandala
After painting 3 Sri Yantras, my creativity opened up as I was feeling a bit blocked. I got that I should make a Venus Yantra with a Mandala around it. I started by constructing the yantra and then setting up the pattern. I chose the #6 pattern from the Vedic Square grid as it is connected to the planet Venus. After placing the dots around 8 times, I connected them to create this pattern. Every time you place the dots and connect, it always comes out different. Then I placed the women around the design. The painting process is called the Harish Johari Wash Painting Technique, named for my teacher Harish Johari who came up with it. It consist of layering watercolor and gouache. First you paint everything in watercolor and fix it by pouring water over it or submerging it in a tub. Once that is completely dry, cover the whole painting with gouache of gradient colors, starting with white in the middle and work your way out to the outside corners, darkest at the edges. Once dry, fix, then dry and repaint with watercolor. You can repeat this process as many times as needed, or just layer with watercolor and fix in between each layer. And most important, I chant the mantra that corresponds to the yantra, in this case, Aum Shum Shukraye Namah Aum.
