After painting 3 Sri Yantras, my creativity opened up as I was feeling a bit blocked. I got that I should make a Venus Yantra with a Mandala around it. I started by constructing the yantra and then setting up the pattern. I chose the #6 pattern from the Vedic Square grid as it is connected to the planet Venus. After placing the dots around 8 times, I connected them to create this pattern. Every time you place the dots and connect, it always comes out different. Then I placed the women around the design. The painting process is called the Harish Johari Wash Painting Technique, named for my teacher Harish Johari who came up with it. It consist of layering watercolor and gouache. First you paint everything in watercolor and fix it by pouring water over it or submerging it in a tub. Once that is completely dry, cover the whole painting with gouache of gradient colors, starting with white in the middle and work your way out to the outside corners, darkest at the edges. Once dry, fix, then dry and repaint with watercolor. You can repeat this process as many times as needed, or just layer with watercolor and fix in between each layer. And most important, I chant the mantra that corresponds to the yantra, in this case, Aum Shum Shukraye Namah Aum.
Wow, only a few weeks away and I get the opportunity to go teach in London! I am teaming up with my dear friends, Seema Johari Agarwal and her daughter Anu. Seema is the daughter of my teacher Harish Johari. We will be supported by other members of the Johari family. The concept of this workshop is to bring Indian culture to the west. I will be teaching a weeklong Yantra & Mandala Workshop, in the evenings we will have different cultural events. Some highlights will be, Ayurvedic Cooking Classes, Storytelling, Kirtan, Henna Party and just the experience of being with a family where so much tradition has been passed down. Super excited! The dates are July 16-22 and optimum to come for the whole week if you can, but you can also come for a few days and pick the package you want! Contact me for more info and registration.
Wishing you all a very Happy New Year. Many blessings for all of you in 2014!
We are getting ready for another year of Sacred Painting in Haridwar, India! This is a very special trip as you will be getting the knowledge of 2 Master Artists, Pieter Weltevrede and Mavis Gewant. Just came back from the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat in the Bahamas. I had 3 wonderful workshops, Yantra Painting, Chakra Painting and Planet Mandalas. Students were extremely focused, creating amazing work, while sitting in silence, reciting their mantras. For those of you that missed it, I will be there again next year!
Here are some photos from the workshop:
I am so excited to be able to come to London in July and teach a weeklong Yantra Painting Workshop. This workshop will be very special as it is hosted by Seema Johari Agarwal and her daughter Anu. Seema is the daughter of my teacher, Harish Johari and will bring many of the traditions that she grew up with to the workshop. There will be delicious satvik Indian Vegetarian Food, just like the food from the Johari House in Haridwar; Yoga and Meditation, Kirtan, Cooking Classes and so much more. We are also fortunate to have Peter Marchand come and give a few lectures. This is a chance to experience some of the wonderful things India has to offer in London! For more info contact Seema or Anu, or go to the event on Facebook.
Ganesh- the Elephant God, is also known as the Remover of Obstacles. This yantra is suitable for anyone that has obstacles, whether it's physical or spiritual. A great yantra to work with if you are starting a spiritual practice, going on a journey, new business or venture, etc. I am so excited to be offering this yantra as an archival print. The original painting was painted while I chanted the Ganesh Mantra continuously. This practice infuses the yantra with the energy of the deity and can be used for meditation and healing. Hand painted custom yantras are also available. To see more about the prints, go here!
Brand New! Planet Yantra Prints!
I just came back from the printer and now am offering good quality reproductions of my Planet Yantras. Each of these 9 yantras were hand painted by me, started on the day of the week corresponding with that planet. For example, the yantra shown is a Venus Yantra, I started it on a Friday, as that is the day that rules Venus. While constructing and painting each yantra, I chant the mantra for that planet continuously, which infuses it with energy and light.
These yantras are printed on high quality paper with archival inks.
Perfect for meditation, they are 8 x 10 and are priced at $50. I also make custom painted yantras and that starts at $300.
To order: See the Planet Yantra page
